Jodi Moore Newland opened Sweetwater Cuisine in 2004 as an off-site catering company while teaching in the secondary mathematics classroom in Virginia Beach. Her love of entertaining and food helped her build Sweetwater into what it is today – one of the top catering companies in Hampton Roads. She has a passion for serving others and in 2014, she founded Daniel’s Grace, a 501(c)(3) committed to helping cancer families survive and thrive.
Executive Chef, Alvin Hyman trained for 18 years under Chef Bobby Huber, starting work in the kitchen at Bobbywood at the young age of 14. During his tenure in the food industry he has worked at Bobbywood, Steinhilber’s, Cobalt Grille, and Alexis. He imparts creative flair in all his dishes and takes extreme pride in whatever bears his name. Alvin’s dishes are beautiful and delicious, and always leave customers wanting more. He is known by most as AJ and his favorite artist is Ingrid Michaelson, which we listen to in our kitchen some days – and yes, this is true.
Bobby Holt, known as Bob2, has 28 years of experience on the Hampton Roads’ food scene. He worked at Bobbywood under the leadership of Chef Bobby Huber, at Cobalt Grill, and Big Sam’s. Bobby works with intensity and says that what he enjoys most about his work is the camaraderie in the kitchen environment. Bob2 is Sweetwater’s sous chef.
Josselyn has worked as a cook for the last 12 years. She worked in the kitchens of Kincaid’s and Steinhilber’s. She loves the craziness of the kitchen and the fast pace at which we work. JoJo works alongside the guys on the restaurant line and can definitely hold her own!
Fanny Arroyo has been a part of the Sweetwater family for five years. She began cooking in the Coast Guard where she spent 13 years feeding the masses. In the years that followed she developed her catering skills as she worked for Catering Concepts and Creative Catering. She is a brilliant pastry chef and loves creating new items. She has a knack for developing loving relationships with customers. They ask for her by name!
Event Designer, Kendall Fossen graduated from Radford University with a degree in music. Since graduation she found her love of the restaurant industry and has spent the last 5 years honing her service skills. Patrick Evans-Hylton touts her as one of the best servers he has encountered in recent years. She has worked at Sweetwater for a total of 3 years in different capacities. She loves working with brides and has a creative eye which promises unique events that will be remembered for years to come.
Sue McKechnie is the Director of Marketing and Corporate Sales. She holds a degree from California State University at Chico in Hotel Management. She has more than ten years non-profit fundraising experience and after raising her four children has launched back into a sales career.
Jim Copeland has 38 years of service experience and is a fixture in the Wayside Village community. He has spent the last 15 years working in whatever restaurant occupied the current Sweewater suite.
Monique Laperrier is our amazing Office Manager.
